Belzile is no different than Nash, Pitlick and Bonino. Career, below average, role player. None of those guys should have been signed. Typical of the Rangers to sign these types of dopes that block young prospects. One of several reasons they have one cup in 85 years.

@itsmcilrathtime I somewhat disagree.  Nash is a veteran bottom sixer who has age catching up to him...Bonino is a bottom sixer who might have age catching up to him, Pitlick has been a depth guy who hasn't quite figured it out, but might work if things work out.  Belzile is a guy who grinded his way up through the minor leagues, and broke through last year finally.

Besides which there was no salary cap room to sign much else...which is a different conversation.  I don't really have problem with the signings...sometimes they work out, most of time they just prove to be okay, and then there's some that spectacularly fail.  But you're always hoping for a Joel Bouchard kind of experience.

14 points in 31 games at 32 is hardly breaking through. Especially playing zero pressure hockey because the team was a joke.  Othmann and Cuylle have completely out played any of those guys and it’s a terrible message to send to every young prospect in your system when that happens and then you get sent to the minors it shows you that the preseason and  training camp means nothing.

Go to the 8:00 minute mark and tell me if this guy needs to be waived. There were 3 open Rangers to gain the zone and he decided to try to beat 3 defenders.... Brutal

But it's the truth that preseason and training camp mean nothing.

Go to Hartford, work hard and when a roster spot opens be prepared to make it difficult for them to send you back.  Pro Hockey 101.

On a good note Laviolette recognizes Kakko's special talent that made him a top end prospect.  Hopefully Laviolette comprehends the needs of a young player to succeed. Unlike Gallant who could only open doors for mature players.

From Loudhub

Kaapo Kakko is having a solid camp, continuing his evolution as an effective 200-foot player. His defense has drastically improved – so much so that he's getting looks on the penalty kill – and Laviolette has raved about how he controls pucks in high-traffic areas and still make plays.

Following 7 have been reassigned:

Forwards: Berard, Edstrom, Leschyshyn (cleared waivers), Rempe
Defense: Robertson, Scanlin
Goaltender: Garand

Also: Hollowell and Domingue were placed on waivers in order to reassign tomorrow

So that leaves 25 in camp, with Cuylle and Othmann still there, along with Jones, Brodzinski and Harpur

Any guesses on who will end up staying?  Since Othmann and Cuylle can be sent down without clearing waivers, they are the least likely, IMO.

Left in camp

''Forwards (15): Nick Bonino, Jonny Brodzinski, Filip Chytil, Will Cuylle, Barclay Goodrow, Kaapo Kakko, Chris Kreider, Alexis Lafreniere, Brennan Othmann, Artemi Panarin, Tyler Pitlick, Vincent Trocheck, Jimmy Vesey, Blake Wheeler, Mika Zibanejad

Defensemen (9): Adam Fox, Erik Gustafsson, Ben Harpur,  Zac Jones, Ryan Lindgren, K’Andre Miller, Braden Schneider, Jacob Trouba

Goaltenders   Jonathan Quick, Igor Shesterkin

I think Pitlick and Vesey can be thrown into the category of not necessarily necessary.

Kreider Zib  Kappo

Panarin Chytil Lafreniere

Cuylle Trochek Wheeler

Othmann Bonino Goodrow

Leaving Brodzynski, Pitlick, Vesey, on the outside up front. Alternate Othmann and Cuylle on the third and fourth line game by game. Injuries happen and they get bumped up.  If it doesn't work out after a month players the caliber of Pitlick and Vesey are available every day on waivers. Othmann and or Cuylle go to Hartford with a real good understanding of where they need to be. But just as likely they could play very well in New York. Both will be twice the players Pitlick and Vesey are, possibly immediately. Until Lafreniere gets it together and shows he can handle a right wing top two spot, there is that variable and I'd far rather see Othmann in the mix than Vesey, Pitlick or Goodrow.

Folks are going to hate me for saying this, but here goes...

They will ruin Othmann if they keep him in NY playing 4th line minutes. Send him to Hartford sooner rather than later to let the kid adjust during their training camp.  Let him play top line minutes in the A and PP/PK then call him up if he excels or the need arises.

I'm not sold on Cuylle being an NHL forward even on the 4th line but at least he is older and has a few games of real NHL experience. Making roster moves to please the fan base never works out in the end.

I count eight(8) defensemen

I agree 100%...if Othmann is not in the top 9, then he needs to be Hartford getting top minutes.  I think we can live with Cuylle on the 4th.

@mjolnir Could they groom Othmann to be right wing @ HFord?

Edit Answer is Yes
