I wouldn't go more than 3 years.

Would you take a 3 year deal for Lindgren in the off-season.  How about 4 years?

I dunno...It doesn't bode well that smurfs like Pasta can mess him up...

I'd do 4 years but he may finish the contract on LTIR.

I think if you can get him for 5 years and $4,000,000 per its doable. He's not signing for less than 5 years.. There is always LTIR when he's down. The reality is most of his issues are self inflicted. He has to protect himself better. Get his stick into guys teeth who are trying to run him. He's kinda at a crossroads now, figure out how to be aware or keep getting pasted. Both those Pasturnak hits were caused by Lindgren's terrible body positioning and tunnel vision on the boards.  Both times Pasturnak had to cover some ground to get to him. He needs some board play 101 from a coach. Housley who wasn't the biggest guy should be able to help him out.

His salary this year is 4M. His cap hit is $3M.

Housely was a smallish skilled D man

Lindgren is a smallish physical D man

I don't know how much Lindgren can change but if he doesn't his career will not be a long one.

Too bad because I think we all love his heart but he is just going to continue getting rocked for as long as he lasts.

https://nypost.com/2023/12/17/sports/rangers-ryan-lindgren-needs-to-develop-spatial-awareness-on-ice/

I was watching the Rangers at Boston and there it was again, Pastrnak absolutely crushed Lindgren face first into the boards. It was the third monster hit he absorbed in the last 3 games. Uncle Larry's NY Post article hits the nail on the head - Lindgren needs to figure out how to avoid these types of hits. Yes, Pastrnak was tossed for the illegal hit, but sometimes I think Lindgren might be taking one for the team and hope the refs toss the guy  the way Pasternak was tossed. If he continues to take these hits it is only a matter of time until he is out for a bunch of games and the Rangers are missing a top notch defender - again.

It is a hard question whether to sign him for 3 years. Without having access to all the details, I probably would not sign him to a 4 year deal. His history says he misses too many games due to injury.

My point at $4 mill is probably wishful thinking but can’t overpay him. Hence the 5 years. When he hits 30 things can go bad fast. He heads into next season at 26 so a five year deal is ending when he’s 31, and hopefully still playing a little less aggressive, and smarter. But he is what he is and will be battling. Rangers might get 5 years out of him and then the next contract when he’s 31 becomes the one u avoid at all costs. For now I don’t see any way they can move him for fair value. Good one on one coaching can still help him out with his game awareness shortcomings.

4 years 5 million per maybe think about pairing him with someone else who can take some of the physicality off of his shoulders and protect him a bit. Fox doesn't have his back. Zadorov was traded for a 3rd round pick... maybe not the total solution but he is physical and doesn't get banged up every other shift. This team will need to get tougher if they expect to survive in the playoffs.

It's a tough one. If Lindgren starts avoiding hits, he will not be as effective. He can't change his size or skill set. Because he plays in the dirty areas is why he is in the NHL in the first place.

He will be what he is for as long as he lasts.

It’s not about avoiding hits. That’s not practicable. He had no reason on both Pasternak hits to be facing the boards, putting himself in the face into the boards position. Todays hockey players do that, and when u have a guy pissed off at u,and willing to take a cheap shot, your asking for it. Today’s players think the refs will protect them and do it all the time. Sooner or later you’re going to get creamed. You play the way Lindgren does and lots of players take his number down for payback.  He’s got to be smarter.

Respectfully disagree. Has nothing to do with playing smart. Lindgren only cares about making the right play, not the consequences to himself.

Which is stupid and he needs some help.
