1948-49

After finishing near the bottom of the standings in 1947–48, the Rangers entered the 1948–49 campaign hoping to reverse their fortunes. The team made modest roster adjustments aimed at improving their defensive play and finding more consistent scoring depth. Expectations were cautious, but there was optimism that a more disciplined approach under coach Frank Boucher could yield improvement. Few though expected a playoff berth.
The Rangers continued to look for ways to build around steady veterans like Edgar Laprade and energetic forwards like Tony Leswick, hoping to close the gap with the league’s elite.
