Position Breakdown
Left Wing:
Locks:  Martin Rucinsky, Ville Nieminen
Bubble:  Alexandre Giroux, Hugh Jessiman, Garth Murray, Petr Prucha, Ryan Hollweg
Minors:  Ryan Callahan, Nigel Dawes, Steven MacIntyre, Tom Pyatt, Craig Weller, Chad Wiseman
Skinny: Rucinsky will likely play on one of the top two lines, while Nieminen is penciled in for the third line.  The most likely scenario at this point looks to be one of the veteran centermen moving to left wing.

One player who may surprise is Hugh Jessiman, who has been shifted to left wing in rookie camp and may have an outside shot to make the roster out of camp.  Prucha is a longer shot, but could perhaps put some pressure on the Rangers front office while Giroux may get a look if there are injuries in the preseason.

Garth Murray and Ryan Hollweg will get long look for the 4th line spot, with perhaps Hollweg moving to center or right wing.  Dawes, Grenier, Weller and Wiseman appear to have too many players in front of them at this stage.

Pyatt will almost certainly return to Saginaw
Center:
Locks:  Jamie Lundmark, Michael Nylander, Steve Rucchin, Martin Straka
Bubble: Blair Betts, Jarkko Immonen, Dominic Moore
Minors:  Dan Cavanaugh, Lee Falardeau, Bruce Graham, Dwight Helminen
Skinny: The first line center spot appears to be going to one of either Martin Straka or Michael Nylander with the "loser" liable to be shifted to wing on the first line or second line.  If they do go with the three veterans down the middle, then Rucchin will shift to third line center and it will be Lundmark who is forced to the wing spot.

Blair Betts would seemingly have the inside track on the fourth line center spot if he can stay healthy, otherwise the spot could go to Moore, Immonen or perhaps even Ryan Hollweg who played center in the WHL.

Dwight Helminen and Lee Falardeau are expected to start the year in Hartford, but one or both might get pushed down depending on how the players in front of them perform.  Graham is playing for a pro contract, but could also end up being sent back to Moncton.

Cavanaugh, the former captain of the Houston Aeros (AHL) is looking to try and hook up with the Pack.
Right Wing:
Locks: Jaromir Jagr
Bubble:  Jozef Balej, Jed Ortmeyer, Jason Ward
Minors:  Colby Genoway, Rick Kozak
Skinny:  There are few players battling on the right wing for a spot behind Jaromir Jagr, but there are several left wingers/centers who would be happy to play on the right.  It's possible that Balej, Ortmeyer and Ward all make the roster, with Ward also potentially ending up on the bench to start the season.  Kozak and Genoway will be sent to the minors to get some pro experience.
Defense:
Locks: Darius Kasparaitis, Marik Malik, Tom Poti, Dale Purinton, Jason Strudwick, Fedor Tyutin
Bubble: Maxim Kondratiev, Bryce Lampman, Michal Rozsival, Joe Rullier
Minors:  Ivan Baranka, Martin Grenier, David Liffiton, Jonathan Paiement, Thomas Pöck, Jake Taylor
Other: Hannu Pikkarainen
Skinny:  Kasparaitis, Malik, Poti and Tyutin figure to be four of the starter in the NHL, with Purinton and Strudwick likely to be on the bench or 4th line forwards.  Michal Rozsival and Maxim Kondratiev are likely to have the inside track on the final two NHL roster spots, but Kondratiev in particular could potentially lose his sport to Bryce Lampman if he does not impress in camp.

Joe Rullier may find himself on the bench to begin the season, but likely only if Strudwick moves up to the forward and the Rangers decide to go with two defensemen on the bench.

Paiement is playing for a pro contract, but is expected to return to Lewiston for his final junior year.  Pikkarainen will return to Finland to play for HIFK this season.
Goaltender:
Locks: Kevin Weekes
Bubble: Henrik Lundqvist, Al Montoya, Chris Holt
Minors:  -
Other: Dan Blackburn
Skinny:  It's clear that Weekes is the starter, after that it's a three way battle for the NHL backup spot, though it's expected to go to Henrik Lundqvist.  Montoya and Holt will go to the AHL and battle for playing time while Blackburn is looking simply to make a decision about whether to take his insurance money or continue with his comeback.
SWOT
Strengths:
Going into camp, there doesn't appear to be any obvious strengths.  Perhaps the fact that there will be plenty of competition for some of the open roster spots is to some extent a strength in and of itself.
Weaknesses:
The Rangers don't have a lot of scoring on this roster outside of Jagr.  If they are to remain at least competitive a number of players, both veterans and rookies will need to step it up.
Opportunities:
There remains at least one forward spot open on the top two lines, and perhaps two if Rucchin is moved to third line center.  Balej, Immonen and Jessiman all could have shots at those spots, as will Lundmark once again.
Threats:
The two newly signed Europeans (Prucha and Immonen) along with Hugh Jessiman are probably the most likely rookie forwards to win a spot on the roster.  Ryan Hollweg is another who has a shot at making his NHL debut out of camp.
