Weekly Preview: October 2nd-8th

The first month of the 2009-10 season is upon us, and OTG will be providing a game by game previews for each week as we go forward. Since the 2005-06 season, the Rangers have had mixed fortunes in the first month, yet made the playoffs each year. Last year they started well with a 10-2-1 record, but went just 33-28-8 the rest of the way before losing to Washington in seven games during the first round of the playoffs.
In 2007-08 they managed just a 4-6-1 record, but completed the rest of the season 17 games over .500. The previous two season went 5-6-0 and 6-4-3 respectively, both times making the playoffs.
Opening Night Statistics

The Rangers are set for their 2009-10 season opener tonight in Pittsburgh (7:30pm – MSG) and they’ll be looking to extend their unbeaten streak in the first game of the season to five games. In fact the Rangers haven’t lost a season opener since the lockout, and are 6-3-1-0 in their last ten seasons on opening night.
If you’re not a statistics fan, you may just want to brush over the rest of this article, but for the rest of you I present a myriad of stats and facts from the first game of the season.
