With the prospects out in Traverse City playing their first game of the tournament – a 5-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets – the Rangers veterans returned to the ice for their informal skates. Alexander Frolov skated with the team for the first time since signing a one year, $3M contract back on July 27th, and faced off against Marian Gaborik.

Frolov was the last veteran to show up – with the exception of Marc Staal, who remains out without a contract – and is happy to have a chance to earn first line and first unit power play minutes, after being relegated to the second line last year with Los Angeles.

The preseason finally kicked in to gear today with the prospects emerging victorious over the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-4 on the back of two goals by Evgeny Grachev. To be honest, it was great just being able to follow some live hockey again after a long off-season.

Also in the news today was the arrival of Alexander Frolov at the Rangers’ practice facility, just in time for him to be the feature of today’s Ranger Countdown.

The Rangers prospects kick the Rangers preseason off today with their first game against the Columbus Blue Jackets in Traverse City. The rest of the team will gather for official training camp next Friday.

One of those who’ll go into camp looking to impress is Steve Eminger, acquired over the Summer in exchange for Aaron Voros.
