The Battle For Spots
Captain Chris Drury went and saw a hand specialist yesterday and will likely miss 3-4 weeks as originally reported – four weeks at most according to a quote from this morning’s NY Post. The good news is that he won’t require surgery, nor will he need a cast – unless he manages to damage it further over the next coming days.
In the mean time, several Rangers are re-evaluating their chances with the team in his absence. The general consensus amongst the beat writers today – including Jesse Spector of the Daily News and Steve Zipay of Newsday – is that Artem Anisimov and Erik Christensen have locked up spots, and that Brian Boyle, Tim Kennedy, Derek Stepan and Todd White are battling it out for the final spot.
Mac On Track
Just seventeen more days before the puck drops on the Rangers’ 85th season, and the level of excitement continues to build. The final scrimmage before the preseason kicks off tomorrow was held today, and the first line-up set to play against the Devils.
Included in the line-up is the subject of today’s Ranger Countdown: Ryan McDonagh, a defenseman who is making a push for inclusion in the opening night roster.
