It’s been a very long summer, a very sad summer, and a summer that is now coming to an end. After another impressive win by the Rangers prospects at Traverse City, the Rangers announced on Twitter that they would be naming the 26th Captain of the franchise tomorrow (today).

The Rangers have clinched a spot in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament final courtesy of last nght’s win, and the loss by Carolina.  They’ll play the Buffalo Sabres Wednesday night at 7:00pm EST – MSG/NHL for the chance to take home their second tournament title since joining in 2006.

Both teams win their respective divisions courtesy of their 2-0 records, and facing just the last placed teams in their respective divisions – Carolina and Detroit.  Because they have beaten the second and third placed teams, they hold the tiebreaker, should there be any ties in the standings.

The Rangers have announced that Ryan Callahan will be the 26th captain of the New York Rangers, with Marc Staal and Brad Richards announced as alternates.  Callahan becomes the first player born in the state of New York to captain the blueshirts, and just the third America born leader, following in the footsteps of Brian Leetch and Chris Drury.

While Callahan had been favorite, there had been some speculation as to whether Brad Richards by handed the honor.
