Former Rangers Shero and Shanahan Head To Hall
Neither Fred Shero nor Brendan Shanahan will be known primarily for their Ranger careers, but they did each have stints with the Blueshirts. For Fred Shero, he’ll be known primarily for the two Cup winning years he had in Philadelphia, but following his tenure in Philadelphia, he coached the Rangers for just over two seasons from the 1978-79 through to 1980-81 seasons.
Shero got the Rangers to the Stanley Cup finals in his first season, but saw them go down 4-1 to a strong Montreal Canadiens team. In his 2+ seasons, he finished with a 82-74-24 record, the 11th best winning percentage amongst Ranger coaches. His 15-12 record in post-season play, is still good enough for third amongst Rangers coaches, trailing just Mike Keenan and Lynn Patrick.
