Reunanen Amongst Latest Cuts
With their second game scheduled tonight against Boston, the Rangers trimmed another three players from the roster, bringing the total remaining to 42. Forwards Tanner Fritz and Austin Rueschhoff, along with defenseman Tarmo Reunanen are the three heading down to Hartford, having completed their training camp with the big club.
The moves mark the first reassignments of players with NHL experience. Fritz is playing on an AHL contract, so was almost a certain cut, while Reunanen played four games with the Rangers last season, his position in the depth chart has dropped with the additions of Patrik Nemeth and Jarred Tinordi as free agents. He also now has to contend with Matthew Robertson, who has graduated to the pro ranks this season, and Zac Jones who joined the team late last season.
