Second Line Center: Trocheck
For much of 2022, there’s been questions over who would be lineup alongside Artemi Panarin and behind Mika Zibanejad in the second line center spot. With last year’s choice Ryan Strome heading to free agency, and second option Andrew Copp preferring to head to his home state of Michigan, the focus turned to first the trade market and finally ended up with a choice from free agency.
Former Carolina Hurricane Vincent Trocheck joins the Rangers two days after turning 29, having completed a six year contract, half of which was with the Rangers second round playoff opponent these past playoffs.
Rangers Trade Nemeth
A day after it became clear the Rangers would not be buying out the two remaining seasons of Patrik Nemeth‘s contract, GM Chris Drury moved the remaining two years of Patrik Nemeth‘s contract to the Arizona Coyotes, along with two draft picks in exchange for 22 year old AHLer Ty Emberson.
The move had been anticipated, and the cost proved to be relatively substantial, with a 2025 2nd round pick as well as a potential 2026 2nd round pick going the other way. The Coyotes will have the option to move the 2026 pick forward and convert it to a 2024 3rd round pick if they so choose.
From Foe To Friend – Domingue Joins Rangers
In their third UFA signing of the day, the Rangers added netminder Louis Domingue on a two year, one-way contract worth $775,000 AAV. The signing brings together the former third string goaltender, and unlikely starter in the first round of the 2022 playoffs, and the team that he helped hold at bay for the better part of the series.
The 30 year old Quebec native joins his 7th NHL team, having spent time with Arizona, Tampa, New Jersey, Vancouver, Calgary and of course Pittsburgh.
