Tonight’s Game Postponed – Six On Waivers

With the weather conditions and flooding across the New York region, the game scheduled for tonight on the Island has been postponed until tomorrow night. In addition the Rangers have placed six veterans on waivers for purpose of reassignment.

Of the six, perhaps the biggest surprise is Alex Belzile who came into camp fighting for the reserve roster spot, and appears now to have fallen behind Brodzinski in that respect. Brodzinski can play all three forward positions, and certainly has had many offensive chances through his preseason appearances to date. Belzile too has been very noticeable, but as a specialist winger on a team that is deep in that area, perhaps will have to bide his time for the moment.

Cuylle, Belzile and Othmann Stand Out In Loss

The Rangers fell short 3-2 to the Devils last night, to leave them 1-2-0 in the three preseason game to date. It was a game that showed the Rangers still have work to do, but have the capacity to compete with the Devils if they play the right way.

Like last Spring, the first period looked like the Rangers were outmatched by the Devils quickness. The visitors had the better of the chances, and if not for some sharp saves from Igor Shesterkin, the team could have been down a couple of goals. It’s perhaps ironic that the only goal of the period came late off the stick of Tyler Toffoli, a spin-around shot that didn’t quick come off, but deflected in off of the Ranger netminder’s stick and between his legs.
