Trouba Ducks Out Of New York
Rangers captain Jacob Trouba has been traded to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for soon to be 26 year-old left handed defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and a conditional 2025 4th round pick. No salary was retained by New York, meaning the remaining balance of his $8M contract for this year and next has been completely removed from the Cap figure.
They do add $1.1M for Vaakanainen, who becomes an RFA this Summer and is currently on Injury Reserve for an upper body injury. The net result is a $6.9M bump in camp space for Chris Drury to work with this season, for a total of $8.6M as the roster currently stands.
Trouba Trouble About To Resolve
It appears Jacob Trouba’s time with the Rangers is nearing an end. Trouba will be a healthy scratch tonight, and will be either traded, or placed on waivers at 2pm Eastern, which would either result in him being claimed by another team by 2pm Saturday, or potentially reassigned to Hartford.
The move would seemingly bring an end to a rocky relationship that began at the NHL Entry Draft, when it appeared that General Manager Chris Drury tried to work a trade of Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings, and then followed it up with a league-wide memo that specifically named him and Chris Kreider as being available as Drury sought to change up his roster.
