The New York Rangers preseason gets under way this week with the prospects set to play against the Flyers on Friday and Saturday. Twenty two players have been invited to camp this year, with a heavy presence of players who’ve already appeared in the pros (3 – NHL, 10 – AHL and 1 – ECHL).

No fewer than 14 players are Ranger draft picks, including two defensemen – Artem Gonchar and Evan Passmore – who were drafted back in June. Another three blueliners – Case McCarthy, Cooper More and Corbin Vaughan – are there by invite, a testament to a relatively weak funnel on defense, though McCarthy has seen some action with Hartford each of the last two seasons.

As we head into rookie camp this week, the Rangers have announced a few changes in the front office that adds more members to the executive leadership, as well as a handful of new scouts. Current Assistant General Manager Ryan Martin sees his title upgraded to Associate General Manager, while Ryane Clowe rejoins the organization after a stint as Assistant Manager in San Jose to take up the same role with New York.

He’s joined by Jim Sullivan who has been promoted from his role as Vice President of Hockey Strategy to also be an Assistant General Manager as well. Sullivan has been with the Rangers for 16 years, and has a background in data and statistics.
