The Rangers have added former first round pick Benoit Pouliot to the roster, signing the Ontario native to a 1 year, $1.3M deal. Pouliot provides some additional depth on the wing, albeit more likely a sometime second liner, and mostly third liner. The Rangers are expected to miss Ryan Callahan and Carl Hagelin for some time to start the season, as both players recover from shoulder surgeries.
Pouliot has some scoring touch, with a career high of 17 goals in 53 games back in 2009-10 when he split time with the Minnesota Wild and Montreal Canadiens. Pouliot looks likely to be an initial fill in on the top two lines, and compete with the likes of Mats Zuccarello and Tom Pyatt for time.
