The rumors finally came true today with the announcement that the Rangers have re-signed unrestricted free agent defenseman, Boris Mironov to a contract. Earlier reports had the veteran defenseman discussing a one year deal for 2.5 million dollars, a significant decrease from the purported initial asking price of around 4 million back in July. The addition of the 31 year old Mironov seems to solidify the top six for the Rangers defense, although speculation continues to abound as to Tom Poti’s future with the club.
Mironov joined the Rangers mid-way through the season last year after having a disagreement with his former club over playing time. The situation resulted in the Russian blueliner leaving his team temporarily, before he was finally dealt to the Rangers for a 4th round draft pick. Mironov had 3 goals and 9 assists in 36 games with the Rangers after joining the team and along with Mike Dunham helped contribute to a significant reduction in the goals allowed (from 3.1 down to 2.5).
