Camp Day 1 – A Different Look

The Rangers got a first chance to skate under their new coach Peter Laviolette today, and as you’d expect the feedback was positive. If Chris Drury is to be taken at his word, then at least some of the veteran leadership core asked for this, and it wouldn’t surprise if a few of the younger […]

Laviolette Shares His Camp Stories

With on-ice work scheduled to kick off tomorrow – the players went through physicals today – new Head Coach Peter Laviolette came out to face the media and paint a picture of how he’ll approach the next few days leading into Sunday’s preseason match-up with the Boston Bruins. The main theme: experimentation, or at least […]

Camp Set To Get Underway Thursday

The Rangers announced today that training camp will get underway on Thursday, with new head coach Peter Laviolette facing the media tomorrow at 3:00pm Eastern. Camp is scheduled to run from Wednesday through to Saturday with the first preseason game scheduled against Boston on Sunday. This will be Laviolette’s first training camp as the Rangers […]

Prospects Complete Sweep with 3-1 win

There was no coverage and details were few and far between, but the Rangers prospects completed a 2-0 sweep over the rival Flyers. Coming off a 4-2 win last night, the prospects saw a number of changes to the line-up, including in net. Olof Lindbom played the first period and stopped all 9 shots he […]

Rangers Prospects Win

The Rangers prospects kicked off the season with a win in Allentown tonight, defeating the Flyers prospects by a score of 4-2. It was far from a perfect game for either side, but there were a few prospects that stood out for the Blueshirts. Brennan Othmann starts his first pro season as perhaps the highest […]

Prospect Camp Gets Underway

The Rangers annual prospect camp opens up today, around a week ahead of the full training camp expected to begin around Wednesday next week. This year sees 14 forwards, 7 defensemen and 3 goalies attending the week-long camp, which includes two games against the Flyers prospects on Friday and Saturday. Fourteen Ranger draft picks will […]

Arbitrary Decisions

The headline Rangers related story – albeit a recently former one – comes from Vladimir Tarasenko, who fired his agent Paul Theofanous and hired J.P. Barry and Pat Brisson.  The move comes a couple of days after Tarasenko was linked to the Carolina Hurricanes, and reportedly received multiple offers from teams in the $5.5M to $6.5M range.

Free Agency Expected To Start Quickly

Chris Drury heads into today’s NHL Free Agency period with needs on the right wing, depth defense and backup netminder, but little to no Cap space to do much.  As a result he’s expected to mostly be looking at veterans or bubble players who are willing to play near the league minimum.  With the exodus of five roster players, plus depth defenseman Libor Hajek who wasn’t extended a qualifying offer, the team has some gaps to fill.

Rangers Round Out Draft On Day 2

With four picks remaining on Day 2 of the NHL, the Rangers went big. Literally that is, selecting players 6-2 and above, adding some depth to the blueline as well as a couple of longshot forward prospects.

Blueshirt Pick Perreault

New York only has five picks in the draft this year, and only one in the first two rounds, having traded away much of their draft capital to compete in the last two playoff runs.  Still, Drury managed to hold onto this year’s first round pick, and elected to go with 18 year old right wing, Gabriel Perreault.
