Former first round pick, Filip Chyti looks set to return to the Rangers line-up as they face the St Louis Blues for the first time this season on Wednesday. The 22 year old Czech was originally said to be “a little under the weather”, before being an outright scratch for Sunday’s 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks.
In practice today, Chytil skated as a set of four with Greg McKegg, Morgan Barron and Julien Gauthier, as well as slotting into the second PP unit, which suggests the coach is leaning towards him being back in the line-up.
Despite being only 22, Chytil is already in his 5th season, but has just 5 goals and 7 assists in 41 games this year. While he’s shown flashes of talent over his career, he’s been unable to put together much over the past two seasons, and has missed the opportunity to step up to fill the need on the bottom six and at center.
When asked what he could do better, Gerard Gallant said “be more like Mika Zibanejad“. A tall order for the young forward, who is one player being watched as the deadline approaches.
Gallant just confirmed that Chytil is going back in tomorrow. He said if he has any message to him, it’s watch No. 93 and try to incorporate some of that into his game, particularly the 200-foot commitment.
