I really enjoyed Lafreniere's game this season, and it's left me hungry for me. I don't think he's comparable to MacKinnon really though in any sense, because MacKinnon's game is so centered around his skating, speed and of course his offense creation. Lafreniere's game is a bit more power than speed, and he has that chippiness to him which comes out occasionally.
With that said, it's an interesting comparison that points out how players we see as stars, don't always start out as stars...or don't always follow a linear trajectory. We expect 23/24 year olds to dominate, and when we see guys that do, we inevitably compare our guys to the few that do.
I am happy to say that Laf proved me wrong this year especially after a meh start to the season. And his game actually shows up in the playoffs too. He was one of the few on the top 6 (along with Trocheck) who played consistently effective. I also give props to Cuylle who never passed up a chance to hit somebody (just like he did in the regular season). The rest of them (skaters) played like pussies and I don't care if they were banged up or hurting... Bobby Orr was hurting practically every game of his career and he never used it as an excuse.
In the playoffs, the team the plays hard hockey usually beats the team of fancy danglers. Florida is embarrassing Connor McD and the Oilyrags

The comparison is strictly stats after the same 298 and 300 even strength games which I’m sure will surprise a lot of people. That’s pretty good company for Laf and he’s just getting as evidenced by his playoff performance.
