Where from here?
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, not. The Rangers can kiss the playoffs goodbye. Drury and his reloading crap has failed miserably. Little method to his madness, just grasping at retreads, at the expense of young blood that could blossom.
Under Drury’s handling the Rangers have a top six that includes 30 something’s Panarin, Miller, Trocheck, and Zibanejad. And I think the jury is in, with a not even close to a Cup lineup verdict. Add young bloods Lafreniere, Perreault and Cuylle to the top six and that doesn’t move the dial. In other words the Rangers are in future mediocrity land. They don’t have the draft picks coming up or the already drafted top picks needed to rejuvenate the lineup. Their only way out is some judicious trading. Even then the only one the Rangers can remotely hope could bring back a youthful top 6 Center is Trocheck. That is if he goes to a team that thinks he’s the final piece and they have a package that they can offer the Rangers with a young Zibanejad type in return. Trocheck could be a game changer for more than a few teams, so the market should be there. Thats it. Trade Panarin you say? That problem is his NMC will limit Ranger options and they will be doing well to get a low first round pick from a probable single contender Panarin will agree to a trade to. Three year wait to see if the first round pick develops, so no immediate help there.
Soucy, Raddysh, Sheary, lol for whatever Yu can get back. And the obvious guy that has to go Lafreniere, and again a big return is not happening. You will get a player back the trading team has given up on, in other words their Lafreniere, or a not pretty draft pick.
So a lot of decisions to make, and some very good trades to be made, or the Rangers are headed for the bottom of the pile. And Drury is just not the guy to be doing the dealing. Never should have been hired as the Rangers G.M. You need a proven GM that’s had the guts and brains to trade for the right kind of players. And that guy is in Florida, Bill Zito currently earning a rumoured $2 to $3 million. Get permission to speak to him offer him $6 million and you got him. Dolan can easily afford it. Then you got a chance. Rangers are on a fast track to the toilet with Drury.
"""We know we have the capability of scoring goals, and we have. And so we’ve got to build on the positive things that we’re doing. We’ve got to identify areas that we can improve and get better, to try to help in that capacity. And that’s what we’re trying to do.”""
Thanks for the refresher Coach, but been hearing this since the second game of the year. Better start looking in the mirror and also judging just exactly what your Asst's are doing in practice. It ain't working. Sullivan won his cups with Malkin, Crosby, and Letang at their absolute playing peaks, in his first season and a half. Then not much of anything since then. I don't see anything in his resume a dozen fired NHL coaches wouldn't have also accomplished.
And lets face it as bad as the Sheary Sullivan connection is, the Drury obsession for BU alumni is worse. Compounded by the BU Asst. coach's. Are we to believe Sacco and Quinn were the best out there? Was Sullivan?
Do you think there's a coach that can really make something out of this bunch? We've been stuck with the same culprits posing as top players for years -- in the offensive zone, they float around the perimeter, pass at every opportunity, refuse to go the dirty areas, their "fundamental hockey" is nonexistent and they're as slow as molasses. Not one of them has been benched for making a mistake yet; and if they don't like something, they find a way to get rid of the coach. Outcome: same result. Management in the meantime has locked them up with long term contracts with iron clad NMCs so there's no real change.
This was not a good team before Drury began cleaning house -- so it's only natural they'd get worse once you started removing players and replacing them with marginal "talent" (I use that word loosely).
This organization has needed an overhaul from top to bottom for decades.

You seem to forget Gallant and Laviolette both got real good years out of pretty much the same core so ya maybe a different coach gets different results. And of course now they need to undo Drurys work. Adding a 30 something Miller was stupid. Especially with a badly needed first round pick in it. I think thats pointed out above.
I didn't forget -- both those seasons relied heavily on Igor and the PP. Outside of those two things, everything I said above was true and the end result was the same.Posted by: @cuyllrangerPosted by: @mjolnirDo you think there's a coach that can really make something out of this bunch? I do agree 1000000% about Miller. Everyone knew Rangers had to get younger, faster and tougher......he is the opposite of all those things.
No matter how you cut the cake, Miller is better than having Chytl on LTIR and first round picks in Ranger land are erratic prizes.
1 Cup in 85 years
2048
Nobody is running away with anything this year in the east...
If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team
And let's not forget the overpaid pussy aka Adam Faux
If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team
Othmann down, Bérard, Blidh and Dowling called up. Gets better and better. Replacing Laba who got slammed by Wilson and Sheary who went on L.T.I.R.
