The Rangers called up 19 year old JT Miller along with recent acquisition Brandon Mashinter from Connecticut and sent Benn Ferriero back down.  The move gives the Rangers a few more options as they await the return of Ryan Callahan and Chris Kreider from injury.

In Miller, the Rangers get a potential third liner who can play wing or center and provide some scoring and grind in the crease area.  The 2011 1st Round pick is in his first pro season with the Connecticut Whale and ranks fifth on the team with 8 goals in 37 games, to go along with 12 assists.

Mashinter was recently acquired from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Tommy Grant and a conditional 7th round pick.  The 6-4 230lb 24 year old played 13 games with the San Jose Sharks in 2010-11, but failed to register a point, while registering 17 penalty minutes and an average of just 6:23 in ice time per game.  Surprisingly he’s done well offensively since joining the Whale, with 3 goals and 4 assists in 8 games.

Ferriero gets sent down after registering one assist in four games with the Rangers, in time spent mostly on the fourth line.
