The New York Rangers announced today that they have agreed to terms with 2005 2nd Round Draft Pick, Michael Sauer. The signing comes just one day after Sauer’s birthday, and terms of the deal with the 19 year old defenseman were not disclosed. The younger brother of NHL defenseman Kurt Sauer, Michael has suffered injuries in each of his first two years with Portland of the WHL. Selected this year to attend the USA U-20 World Junior team camp, Sauer will be almost certainly return to the Winterhawks for at least one season, and perhaps again in 2007-08.
Should Sauer return to the WHL as expected, his contract will not count against the NHL limit of 50 contracts.
