The Rangers announced today that they have come to terms with former Michigan Wolverine forward Jed Ortmeyer and defenseman Steven MacIntyre of the Muskegon Fury.
The 6-1 186 pound Ortmeyer served as captain for the Michigan Wolverines of the NCAA and was known for his work ethic and his two way playing style. The 24 year old played 146 games with the Wolverines, registering 52 goals and 66 assists along with 182 penalty minutes. This past season, Ortmeyer lead his team to the Frozen Four and had 18 goals and 16 assists on his way to his second straight team MVP award and the CCHA’s best defensive forward award.
MacIntyre is 6-6 and 25 pounds and appears to be an enforcer if his 279 penalty minutes in 54 games are anything to go for. The big defenseman appears to be this year’s version of Jeff State, another sizable signing from last year’s off-season.
