The New York Rangers released the Training Camp roster today. With two fewer preseason games, it’s not surprising then that it only includes 48 players. None of the European or Canadian Junior prospects were invited. Nor were any AHL players, as has been the custom in recent years.
Attending camp will be 28 forwards, 15 defensemen and 5 goaltenders. Names you’ll all recognize without having to go look for them on the internet. Barring injuries, at least 25 of these guys will be heading to Hartford over the next two weeks. Whom and when to be determined.
ON SCHEDULE
Presumably tomorrow will be when players report to Greenburgh to begin testing, with on-ice activities scheduled Thursday through Saturday. They’ll then get a day off ahead of their first preseason game next Monday in New Jersey.
When the first cuts will happen is anyone’s guess, but with just two weeks before the season opener, we wouldn’t be surprised if it occurred sooner rather than later.
NUMEROLOGY
Over the summer several new jersey numbers were revealed. J.T Miller is switching back to his preferred #10 after the departure of Artemi Panarin, and new numbers were issued to Sean Durzi (5), Marcus Pettersson (26), Oliver Bjorkstrand (28), Joonas Korpisalo (70) and Joe Veleno (90). In addition, it appears that late season signing Eeli Tolvanen will wear #17.
Several prospects also were assigned their numbers, with many of them carrying them over from Rookie Camp.
