Third Day Sees Gaborik On The Ice

The Rangers used pucks for the first time in camp yesterday, and held two scrimmages during the day’s activities. The first ended 3-2, with camp invitee Matt Maccarone scoring two goals and Matt Gilroy having a stand out game, while the second finished in a 1-1 tie. Gilroy has a good shot to lock down one of the two open defensive spots. […]
Pluses and Minuses

With the Rangers just a couple of weeks away from the NHL trade deadline (March 4th), the players in the organization no longer just have to worry whether they’ll be dressing in Broadway Blue, but whether the new man behind the bench will make them be successful, or perhaps send their careers the wrong way. […]
Home Cooking

Before the lockout, the Rangers were known mostly for one thing: failure. Seven years of playoff futility was highlighted by a stream of aging, high priced veterans, who for the most part failed to perform in the bright spotlight of Broadway. Four and a half years on, and the Rangers have moved on with three […]
Valiquette In Net?

Stephen Valiquette would get another shot at the Maple Leafs tonight (7:00pm – MSG) when the Rangers visit Toronto. New York has a four game winning streak, but the Leafs have had some success lately, and shut the Rangers out the last game they met, a 1-0 shootout win in New York last month. The Leaf’s plan is to […]
Patrick Rissmiller Back In

The Rangers have apparently signed undrafted left wing, Devin DiDiomete to an NHL contract. From his statistics, the 5-10, 200lb DiDiomete looks as if he’s a player who players with a bit of an edge and can chip in the odd goal. Patrick Rissmiller will be back in the line-up tonight against the Dallas Stars (7:00pm – MSG) at the […]
Valliquette Backstops Shootout Shutout

The Rangers head into Detroit tonight (7:00pm – MSG) with a 6-1-0 record courtesy of Stephen Valiquette and his third NHL career shutout. The Rangers did it tough last night against the Leafs, needing a shootout to get one past Maple Leaf netminder Vesa Toskala and finish the game 1-0. Nikolai Zherdev opened up the scoring and Fredrik Sjostrom scored the game winner in the shootout, while Valiquette stopped two of the […]
Free Agency – Day 2

Day two of the 2008 free agency frenzy is under way, and so far no more big signings to report, which of course gives us plenty of time to review the stories from yesterday. Wade Redden of course was the biggest signing for the Rangers yesterday, and he seems ready to go. The career Senator is set to play for just […]
Rangers Sign Four, Re-sign Two

Perhaps Glen Sather has a rabbit up his sleeve, but with the first nine hours of the 2008 free agent period behind us the Rangers are still without any wingers on their top lines, and are staring down the barrel of a season without a top line winger in their midst. As with most years, the free […]
No Such Thing As A ‘Free’ Agent

In a way it’s ironic that the NHL and NHLPA use the terms “Free” Agency. Judging by some of the projected offers for the few marquee players on offer, they’re about as far afield from that designator as you can be and still sign a valid contract. Tampa Bay (complete with new ownership) has gotten […]
Season Ends in OT

Well that’s another season in the books my friends. With today’s 3-2 OT loss to the Penguins, the Rangers officially were eliminated and now will turn their attention to retooling over the season. Several key players will be free agents this Summer including: Jaromir Jagr, Brendan Shanahan, Sean Avery, Martin Straka, Michal Rozsival, Marek Malik, Paul Mara, Stephen Valiquette and Jason Strudwick.
