The Rangers have apparently signed undrafted left wing, Devin DiDiomete to an NHL contract. From his statistics, the 5-10, 200lb DiDiomete looks as if he’s a player who players with a bit of an edge and can chip in the odd goal.
Patrick Rissmiller will be back in the line-up tonight against the Dallas Stars (7:00pm – MSG) at the expense of Lauri Korpikoski. Rissmiller has sat out the last couple of games after hurting his ankle in his season debut against the Flyers.
The bigger news is of course the return of Sean Avery. Or perhaps that’s the non-news. Avery refuses to talk to any of the New York Media, though we still have stories from The NY Post, Journal News, Bergen Record, NY Daily News and Newsday.
Asked how he’ll deal with Avery, Rangers’ Head Coach Tom Renney said that he’s not thinking about Avery, but the whole of the Stars line-up. Both Stephen Valiquette and Brandon Dubinsky hinted that the team is much more together this year without Avery…though neither player would come out and say it quite that way.
The Charlotte Checkers split their season opening series against the Florida Everblades over the weekend, coming back with a 3-1 win after losing 6-3 in the opener.
Finally, there are reports that Rangers’ prospect David Skokan has returned to his native Slovakia after deciding against reporting to the Charlotte Checkers.
