Things have been crazy here today. I spent most of the day on the phone. Ron Greschner called me bright and early to tell me that Harry Sinden had phoned him wondering if I had been huffing the paint thinner again. Apparently I called Harry thinking he was still GM of the Bruins and inquiring about Mike. I mean Jason Allison. I reassured good OLE Gresch that I was still riding the thrilling natural high of my David Krappa and Zdeno Ciger signings. I also convinced him I had no intention of dipping into the Dutch Boy again. After thanking Ron profusely I hung up to call Harold Ballard to congratulate him on the Sudin signing. Strange the number was disconnected hmm…

In today’s first of many feature articles on the prospects of the New York Rangers I put Jamie Lundmark under the microscope. 6’0″, 180lbs., and at the tender age of 20 perched as one of our top prospects is this Edmonton, Alberta native. Playing center and obtained with the ninth pick overall in the 1st round of the 1999 draft (Rangers second choice that fateful day) Jamie possesses above average speed who maintains his balance and agility. Most recently playing with the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL his progress has come along more slowly than some of us had hoped for. 

It’s been ugly this off-season for Rangers GM Glen Sather.  At least that’s what many of the regular scribes will tell you should you happen to listen.  After “missing out” on the big Colorado trio and then the likes of Weight, Jagr, Turgeon and Hasek, there are more than a few doom and gloomers around.

Far from signing the big ticket Free Agent, the Rangers turned to the lesser lights, signing several younger players, before the July 1st UFA deadline brought a handful of utilitarian veterans..
