Whale Tie Series With 3-1 Win

After dropping their first two games in Portland, the Connecticut Whale have tied up their best of seven series with the Pirates thanks to goals by Chad KolarikJohn Mitchell and the recently returned Mats Zuccarello.

The Whale lead from the 16:32 mark of the first period right through the end, and allowed just a modest twenty shots on goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris, who stopped nineteen.

Gilroy Expected To Get Discounted

Larry Brooks of the New York Post reports today that pending RFA defenseman Matt Gilroy is expected to get a multi-year contract offer, at a significantly discounted rate from the league mandated qualifying offer he would need to get in order for the Rangers to retain his rights.

In Gilroy’s case, he’d be due a one year $2.1M offer or become an unrestricted free agent. Up until July 1st, the Rangers can also attempt to resign him to an extension at a reduced rate.
