The Rangers have signed another of their RFAs, agreeing to a one-year $750,000 deal with 23 year old Tim Gettinger. Gettinger has spent most of his career in Hartford since being drafted in the 5th round of the 2016 draft.
With eight games spanning three seasons, Gettinger has been used primarily as an injury call-up for the Rangers, including two games in each of the past two abbreviated seasons. Last season with the Wolfpack, he had a modest offensive breakout, registering 9 goals and 10 assists in 23 games, and he brings a reliable defensive game to go with that.
For 2021-22, Gettinger is almost certainly projected to remain in Hartford, barring injuries to the NHL starters. Currently he probably sits at around the 16-18 spot in terms of forward depth, with the likes of Dryden Hunt, Julien Gauthier, Morgan Barron and Jonny Brodzinski sitting ahead of him.
With the signing, the Rangers now have just three RFAs yet to sign: Libor Hajek, Igor Shesterkin and Ty Ronning.
