We are cursed. No other way to explain it. How are we fortunate enough to get #2 OA in 2019, #1 OA in 2020, and unfortunate enough to get stuck with two busts? I've watched Lafreniere play in over 300 games, and I've never witnessed anything close to a player who should have been picked in the first round. Then, based on a 28 goal season (a fluke), we sign him to a ridiculous contract. A contract that no other team will want, and one that we will never get out of. Cursed!

A recent worse case is Kakko. At least Laf has shown talent matching the pick.
There were discussions on whether the Devils might take Kakko over Hughes. Kakko was the consensus pick after Hughes was gone so it is not like the rangers effed up the pick. Maybe the Rangers should have let him spend more time in Finland or the AHL to mature. Kakko, at #2, is nothing more than a middle 6 wing. Now there are plenty of 1st round busts, but, when the Rangers finally luck into a 2nd pick, they did not end up with a game changer, but a nice supporting wing. Laf has shown to be more than that.

The most cursed and saddest pick - Alexi Cherepanov 2007 #17 died Oct 13, 2008 on the bench sitting next to Jagr and was unable to be revived.
However, in Lafs year (2020) they picked Schneider at 19 and Cuylle at 60 in the 2nd round. So not all picks are cursed.
The real question is where does K Miller 2018 #22 fit in? 🤣

You give Lafreniere too much credit. From the standpoint of this season, my eyes have seen a 4th line player. From the standpoint of last season, playing with two players with "career seasons" as a second line, one can see how he scored 28. Mark my words, this will never happen again. Lafreniere is slow, can't give a pass, can't receive a pass, and has a mediocre shot. I see a 4th liner. Overpaid by $5 million per season. An albatross of a contract.
As for curses, let's just talk about the top 10 picks we've had the last 15 seasons. CURSED!
