Rangers walking back "the memo"

So, according to Eliott Friedman, Drury was surprised how much attention his email to the other GM's received. The Rangers wanted to calm things down and didn't engage in any trade discussions.
EF mentioned the Rangers didn't allow teams to talk to Kreider and Trouba. I'd love to know why.

Not a great look for Drury...he sends out a memo saying two of his most senior players are available...takes heat, and then tries to walk it back? Sounds a bit like spin control after a poorly thought-out move by Drury. Perhaps now he knows why GMs don't do this kind of stuff.
Feels like another in a series of examples of poor handling of personnel, whether it be a guy like Kravtsov, to Gallant, to Jim Ramsay...and then the Goodrow and Trouba stuff over the Summer

It's not just Trouba or Kreider or Kakko or any one player, coach or management person who is solely to blame but when I watch this play of our $9.5M star defensemen passively defend a player, who is not necessarily elusive on home ice in the conference finals, not use his body to step into a player who he physically is intimidated by who was right in front of him, I lose hope. When I saw this I knew we didn't have a chance and we won't until this gets corrected.
If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team

I never did hear/see anything about what really happened with Ramsey. Anyone know?Posted by: @fishNot a great look for Drury...he sends out a memo saying two of his most senior players are available...takes heat, and then tries to walk it back? Drury better figure out a way over the next three days off, of changes he can make. He’s painted the team into a corner. And status quo won’t go. I don’t think anyone thinks it’s possible, to flip a switch and the same personnel get this turned around. Drury has to do something, or the changes start with him. And let’s face it he hasn’t exactly tripped the light fantastic over his time in New York with previous moves.

This team as constructed is toast. Drury should be fired immediately.
De Oppresso Liber..
from the left elites

And has been for some time......if not for goaltending, they wouldn't have made it as far as they have.....IMO, they were never as good as they thought they were.Posted by: @rangerjunkieThis team as constructed is toast. Drury should be fired immediately.

While change is definitely needed, any deals made now will result in getting pennies on the dollar. I've been convinced for some time that Drury planned to start blowing up the team come the offseason, no matter how far they went in the playoffs. Management has been saying as far back as JD and Gorts that this team was not constructed for the playoffs == something us fans were already aware of.Posted by: @cuyllrangerDrury better figure out a way over the next three days off, of changes he can make. There is one thing they can do that will return the most value:
Trade Shesterkin (turning 29 on Dec 30, 10 team no-trade list).
Barring a miracle, this Rangers team is not winning the cup this year. I am sure there are teams way closer to the cup who would be interested in Shesterkin.
1. If he signs with the Rangers, the Rangers will be screwed up with the cap 8 plus years. They only got to 1 cup final with all world Hank. You do not need your highest paid player to be the goalie.
2. There are odds Shesterkin leaves after the season as he assesses the mess in front of him/offered a better deal and the Rangers get nothing for him.
3. Any trade would have to include an NHL goalie back to the Rangers unless the Rangers think they can get by with what they have.
4. The top 3 centers on the Rangers are not very good (Zib/Trocheck) or one hit away from retirement (Chytil). You cannot win with weakness at center.
5. The Rangers only have 1 top 9 wing that consistently checks. That does not work in the playoffs.
6. The Rangers D is a mess.
The Rangers have lots of needs. Some Igor package deal might help right the sinking Rangers ship.
1 Cup in 84 years
2048

Rangers also need to recoup some of the draft picks they threw away getting rid of players like Nemeth.Posted by: @x10003qThere is one thing they can do that will return the most value:

How in the F can you have a Captain that was openly defiant and devalued any value he had left and spit in the face of the fans who pay his salary. And the GM screwed the pooch on this.... I blame Drury for Trouba still being here sucking. After the botched trade deal he should have released him (bought him out). Now management has lost the players.

Rumors out there today that Zibanejad's name is also out there, though sounds like more just a "gauge value" sort of thing so far. Additionally some chatter that they're talking to Ottawa (though feelin-out stage from what it sounds like). Nothing smoking yet, just chatter.
I think there's some logic to trading Shesterkin, however I think if you do you're basically giving up on the team for the next few years, and it would seemingly put Drury's in the firing line. So I doubt that will happen. I think mitigating that is the possibility of the salary cap advancing quickly, which would make the contract age a lot better...if that happens, then $13M on Shesterkin becomes a lot more easy to work with.
They've only got another a couple from Panarin and Kreider (assuming they both stay) as well as Trouba, so there's some bigger numbers coming off the books or perhaps changing anyway.
I think the challenges on defense probably start with Lindgren and Trouba (but you're going to need more than Jones and Mancini stepping up), and you have to wonder whether Miller becomes part of that change. He's regressed and his next contract could be a real problem too.
Changing the defense wholesale though is very hard to do quickly, so it will depend on what you're doing.

I definitely would have given him "the Goodrow Treatment" and be done with it.Posted by: @pierre_pdareHow in the F can you have a Captain that was openly defiant and devalued any value he had left and spit in the face of the fans who pay his salary. Ownership would be crazy to allow Drury to trade Shestorkin, until they are 100% committed to Drury and I think this crap the last two weeks probably lowered the commitment from 100%.
