https://nypost.com/2024/06/29/sports/talk-of-rangers-trading-jacob-trouba-to-detroit-growing/

Indeed, a well-placed source has told The Post that GM Chris Drury is working on a deal to send the captain to the Red Wings, a trade that the Michigan native would presumably accept after having played as a freshman for the Wolverines in 2012-13.

We are told the Rangers may retain $2.5 million per year on the two remaining seasons of Trouba’s $8M annual cap charge. That represents 31.25 percent retention that would also be applied to the $12M in salary Trouba has coming over the next two seasons.

If that does become the amount of retention if this deal goes through, that would clear an additional $5.5M in space … but the Blueshirts would have to then find a reasonable replacement for the most physical and menacing player on the team who held down a spot on their first penalty-kill unit.

Sounds like Trouba might be the hold up.  He is rumored to be shocked at being traded, and he can wait until Monday to submit his 15 team no-trade list...

Kadribhas way too much term and dollars for the value he provides

Trouba has to realize he is in the NHL and that even though he thinks he has protection with his NTC/NMC and now M-NTC,  he doesn't have a leg to stand on... And his other leg is broke.... If he tries to be "strategic" (ie. an A Hole) he can just be waived. I think then if a team wants him at a reduced price, then Drury will have to make another deal with that team to compensate for that. Don't go away mad... Just go away.

We probably read the same article, that says Trouba’s NMC was tied to his wife’s medical residency which was supposed to have ended the same time as his NMC ended. The start of her residency was delayed a year. But who really knows.

I thought I heard/read Trouba did submit his 15 team no trade list.

I can't imagine a scenario where an NHL contract was legally bound to a spouse's schedule.

Hopefully Trouba has played his last game as a Ranger.

If the Trouba to Detroit deal is off, then it might be best to wait till FA is wound down and there is a team out there that would take Trouba off our hands likely with some salary retention.

If the above doesn't work he needs to be bought out.

Trouba is a useless turd, but how do you sell that?

Rangers acquire Reilly Smith but must do more to reach Stanley Cup goal (lohud.com)

Trouba is not pleased with the way this has gone down and does not want to move his family, according to two people with knowledge of the situation, one of whom said it will require "a major clean up" to mend fences if the captain sticks around. His wife, Kelly, has a medical career in New York and their first child, Axel, arrived in January.

Trouba at this point cannot stick around. He played like $2m and got paid $8m. There is no remedy for that in the NHL except to buy him out... At that point he can go play for the Devils or the Islanders if he wants to stay in NYC. I don't care if we get nothing back for him... He is worthless and a lesson learned about NMC/NTC's.

Non repairable. He has to go. There is no way going forward he stays. The sooner the better. This delay cost the Rangers the ability to replace him July 1. It will be a lot more difficult now, with potential replacement players signing elsewhere yesterday.
