It’s a chance for someone to seize and run with it. Garand maybe or a possible trade. Rangers now have roughly $11.5 mill cap relief to play with. If they were fortunate enough to come up with a young replacement, and it’s been proven time and again u don’t need the best goalie just one good enough to win, it could lead to a interesting scenario playing out. Igor is a huge huge asset that would be worth a bundle and a half on his return. Of course a NMC in his contract to get around. But just throwing it out there, the Rangers have to come up with a goalie they can win with now. Maybe the replacement is marketable when Igor comes back, or maybe he’s playing lights out, either way any additional cap hit while Igor is down will have to be dealt with when he comes back.
They still need 5v5 scoring, that's the big challenge for this team...if they had better offense then perhaps they could weather Shesterkin being done, but it's still not been great this season and Shesterkin was a big part of the early success.
