Nineteen-year-old rookie Don Murdoch put on a breathtaking performance against the Minnesota North Stars, scoring five goals in just his fourth career NHL game during a 10-4 blowout victory. Murdoch became the first player in Rangers history to hit the five-goal mark, firing up a short-lived but legendary start to his career.

With an average age of just 23.80 years, the Rangers fall to the Hartford Whalers by the tune of 8-2. The young guns got off to a good start, scoring the first two goals in the first 2:05, but then give up a pair goals in each of the first and second, before Hartford blows it open in the third with four more goals. 22 year old John Vanbiesbrouck gives up 6 goals on 15 shots, while 28 year old Barry Beck is the oldest skater.

After yesterday’s final games of the NHL season, the Rangers will face the Ottawa Senators in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. Today, the schedule for the first round was released.

I predict that the Rangers will win the series in five games. Ottawa has a lot of fire power, but the Rangers defense will be too much and there is this guy in net named Henrik Lundqvist. The Rangers offensive forecheck will prevent breakouts by the Senators and wear them down. Get ready, Thursday is only four days away. Playoff hockey is almost here!
