Rangers Make First Cuts

With the first part of Training Camp complete, and the team scheduled to make their Preseason debut tonight in Boston (7:00pm EDT), Peter Laviolette and Chris Drury made their first cuts in order to trim the roster.

The first to go was goaltender Olof Lindbom this morning, with the team making him the first reassignment to Hartford. Lindbom has struggled since signing being drafted in the 2nd round – 39th overall back in 2018. At 23, and in the final year of his ELC, it would appear that he is almost certainly not going to be qualified next Summer without a significant turnaround.

Later in the day, the Rangers added several more to the list. Reassigning invitees Joe Arntsen, Max McCue and Ryan Petrovski to their junior teams, along with prospects Bryce McConnell-Barker (3rd Rd – 2022) and Dylan Roobroeck (6th Rd – 2023).

AHL-contracted Sahil Panwar, Seth Barton and Zach Berzolla will all join Lindbom in Hartford, along with Rangers prospect Maxim Barbashev (5th Rd – 2022) and invitee Ryan McCleary. It’ll be interest to see if either of the latter two will end up earning an AHL contract, or whether they will get sent down to Cincinnati at some point before the season starts.

In addition, the Rangers released goaltender Brad Arvantis from his PTO, which was announced just as camp started.

The moves mean the Rangers are left with 48 players in camp – 27 forwards, 16 defense and 5 goaltenders.
