The Rangers took a risk in trying to send down Dale Weise to Connecticut, and the gamble didn’t pay off. The Vancouver Canucks have claimed the 23 year old forward, putting an end to a brief career as a Ranger.
The Winnipeg, MB native had already been passed over in two consecutive drafts by the time the Rangers used a fourth round pick – 111th overall – to select him in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, signing him to a contract in September that same year.
Last season he made his NHL debut, appearing in 10 games without registering a point, but recording 19 penalty minutes a -1 plus/minute rating and 9 shots on goal. After re-signing a one-year $650,000 contract over the Summer, he was one of the last cuts at camp, but ultimately was unable to find a spot on the roster.
