Brian Boyle has cashed in on his 21 goal performance from last year, tripling his salary from a shade over $500k to $1.7M for three years. Having scored just four goals in each of his first three professional seasons, there was some question that Boyle would even make the team coming out of camp.
Some off-season work on his skating, and a new attitude in the preseason saw him cement a spot in the line-up, a decision that proved to be one of the best that John Tortorella made all year. One of the leading offensive players early in the season, Boyle saw his production tail off as the year went on.
The three year deal will take him through to being a UFA, and seems a touch high given that he’s only performed at this level for one season. Still, if Boyle can reproduce his offense from last year, then he would be considered a bargain.
