TRADE DEADLINE THREAD: A look at some of the potential trade options

Adam Herman over at Bleacher report did a good job of breaking down options for center and right-wing

Some good ideas. The Rangers need help.

Even with Chytil seemingly coming back, you have to wonder how effective he'll be, and whether he might get hurt again. For my mind I'd like to see a way for Bonino to get pushed out of the line-up, and more pressure on Vesey to either get him playing like he was before, or out of the line-up again.

Rangers need help but most of Adam's list are not the type they need. Only guys remotely interesting are Buchnevich and Guentzel. But cap issues plus Pitt aint helping the Rangers pretty much shuts them down. Tarasenko been there done that. Duclair sucks. You don't finesse your way to the Stanley Cup you battle. Zibanejad needs two gritty wingers, right now he has none. The bottom six is a mess with Cuylle, and Goodrow only, being the type you need. Kakko, Wheeler, Pitlick are not going to get it done. Vesey brings zero snarl, but has been timely scoring. Chytil is not going to change the hard to play against dial only moves it down even more. Rangers are going nowhere til Drury addresses the Rangers are way to easy to play against, and gets some of the right types. If he doesn't I hope he gets fired.

I would take a chance on Morgan Frost...
PLEASE NO to Hayes
De Oppresso Liber..

I wonder whether Briere would even trade with Drury though...not a large number of trades have happened between the two orgs. Pittsburgh would be more likely, but not sure trading Guentzel to the Rangers would go over very well with the Pens fans, so think that ultimately will be a no go as well.

Just say no to Sean Monaghan. Soft and sweet which the Rangers don’t need. He needs to try to snag a younger bigger Trochek.

Sounds like the plans for Drury (and Dolan) is to go all in here, so I suspect we might see some names get moved this deadline. Might be a bit of a contentious one I think, so we'll have to wait and see.
And after all that, would it even be enough to get this team back on track?

No to the above. In on Frank Vatrano. He would become the Rangers best RW er. Laf is just not finishing.
Don't know what it would take, but Jordan Eberle could help bring some physicality for the playoffs.
If they need me to bleed, then I'll bleed for my team

Here's an article from Brooks on what he's hearing:
Rangers' potential plan to replace Filip Chytil may be wrong move (nypost.com)

The reality is, short of somebody like Connor McDavid/Cale Makar showing up, this team is not getting beyond a round or 2. It almost does not matter. They are too soft and slow to win in the playoffs. If Igor finds his way there are better odds of winning the first round, but if he doesn't they will be riding Old Quick. Lindgren is hurt again. Miller remains confused. Schneider is still shaky. The D is a bit of a mess. The bottom 6 is also a mess.
To review - Goaltending - shaky. Forwards - holes up and down the lineup - need top 6 RW, need 3rd line Ctr, need a few gritty bottom 6 forwards.
D- shaky, lacking sandpaper and one of the 2 sandpaper guys is hurt again
There are way too many holes to plug.
Maybe it is time for a Ranger Classic Farewell Aging Star tour and they can get Crosby for the role. He only has next year left on his contract. 🤣 🤣

Rangers need to get younger and faster.

So we know the holes that need to be filled - the other problem is the way to fill the holes. Do the Rangers go for the Cup and give up some young talent or do the fill in with less costly talent on expiring contracts?
Many of the Rangers' core guys are are over 30 - CK is 32, Panarin 32, Goodrow 30, Trocheck 30, Zib 30, Touba turns 30 Feb 26. Then there is Igor at 28. The young 'core' group is Fox at 25, Lindgren 25, Miller 24, Kakko 22, Laf 22, Schneider 22, Cuylle 21. Chytl is 24 but his recovery is unknown. What if somebody wants Othmann?
Do you give up a young core group guy/prospect/first round pick in order to get near the Cup this season? Now I realize not all the young core guys are showing much, but, giving up on young guys only accelerates the Rangers return to middle of the road meh team. What do you do about the Chytl spot? Get a real replacement or just a rental? Plus, even with the Chytl LTIR money, the Rangers will have to be creative when adding guys.
Drury is in a real spot. He/Rangers got screwed by the NHL/covid not raising the cap for a few years and now he has this mess to try to fix. Chytl is a gigantic question mark. Does Drury go for it because of the old core clock is ticking or does he do a mellow back fill and make some bigger changes in the off season?
Currently, Dolan must be in a good mood due to the Knicks success. We also have no idea how Dolan feels about Drury and whether Sather still is in Dolans ear. Maybe Dolan is giving Drury a longer time frame - maybe not.
There needs to be a lot of luck for the Rangers to make a real push for the Cup this season, starting with Igor finding his game. Like I said in the post above, I do not see this team getting near a Cup.
