Day two of camp wrapped up and the Rangers were still without Brandon Dubinsky. Perhaps just as concerning, Marian Gaborik missed the day after being held out as a precautionary measure. Gaborik has a lower body injury of some sort, which Steve Zipay believes to be a mild groin strain. With that said, Tortorella told Andrew Gross that he should be able to go today.
Alexei Semenov joined the Rangers yesterday on day two as he attempts to win an NHL contract. Semenov caught Tortorella’s eye with his size, but it remains to be seen whether he can earn a chance with New York. The Rangers currently have only four veteran defenders and it would seem likely that they’ll try to add another experienced blueliner.
The team conducted a 45 lap endurance skate Sunday that left Bobby Sanguinetti struggling to catch his breath, but drew encouragement from his coach. Sanguinetti is fighting for one of the open defensive spots on the roster to open the season, but will need to show he can play defense first.
Vaclav Prospal talked to Steve Zipay of Newsday yesterday and says he wants to prove that Tampa was wrong for buying him out over the Summer. The 34 year old forward also talked about having not played center since 2001.
