This story has had more twists than a Chubby Checker song. It appears that the Rangers will indeed buy out the final year of their captain’s contract, and will go into July 1st with enough cap room to make a serious play for 31 year old Brad Richards.
According to Larry Brooks in the NY Post the buy out will occur today, and land the Rangers with approximately $3.717M in dead cap hit this season, and $1.667M next. He goes on to explain why we didn’t see him on waivers yesterday, noting that a player who has a No Movement Clause can decline being put on waivers.
