Henrik Lundqvist has a 2-1 record against the Winnipeg Jets since they relocated from Atlanta two years ago. He has pretty solid stats with a .923 save percentage, a 2.01 goals against average and a shutout to his name and reportedly will start tonight, but maybe Martin Biron deserved the start here.
Last season Biron started in two of the four games, and allowed just one goal in 120 minutes of work. He stopped 50 of the 51 shots he faced, on the way to two wins, including a 3-0 shutout. He’s also coming off a solid 4-1 performance against the Capitals last weekend, whereas Lundqvist gave up 3 goals on 21 shots in Buffalo. With the Penguins Saturday, this might have been a good spot.
Other Rangers who’ve performed well against the Jets include Ryan Callahan who has 4 goals – including two game winners – and two assists in the five games between the two clubs, and Marian Gaborik who has 2 goals and four assists in the same five games. Derek Stepan has two goals -including a game winner – and an assist, and is coming off a game in which he scored the only Ranger goal, his first career short handed goal.
Arron Asham, Michael Haley, Roman Hamrlik and Rick Nash are all yet to face off against Winnipeg in a Rangers uniform, while Stu Bickel (3gms), Matt Gilroy (1), Carl Hagelin (3), Jeff Halpern (1), J.T. Miller (1) and Darroll Powe (1) are yet to record a point against Winnipeg.
