Recent history repeated itself, with the Rangers losing one of their depth defensemen to waivers. Ty Emberson was claimed by the San Jose Sharks, putting a modest depth in the right side for the Rangers. Emberson has yet to make his NHL debut, but did have an improved season in Hartford last year after coming over from the Arizona Coyotes as part of the Patrik Nemeth trade last Summer.
The Rangers do have a little more depth than they did last season, with Mac Holloway and Brandon Scanlin – both still in training camp – available on the right side. They’ve also had Ben Harpur playing some on the right side, perhaps in case of such a situation. It’s also worth noting that projected 7th defenseman Zac Jones can also play the right side.
All five of the other players placed on waivers yesterday: Alex Belzile, Anton Blidh, Turner Elson, Connor Mackey and Riley Nash, cleared and were reassigned to Hartford today.
