Training Camp roster now sits at 61 players, following today’s reassignment of Adam Sykora back to his Slovakian Extraliga club, HK Nitra. Sykora picked up two minor penalties in last night’s 4-1 preseason win over the New York Islanders, but was not expected to factor into the Rangers’ roster plans this year.
The 18 year old Sykora has had a bit of a whirlwind Summer, after being drafted by the Rangers and earning a contract straight out of development camp back in July. The plan has always been to return Sykora to Slovakia. Nitra began their season back on September 16th, and are currently 1-3-0 with the next game scheduled for Friday.
How quickly Sykora can get back into the line-up remains to be seen, but after spending some time with the Rangers, he should be in good shape for the games ahead. It will likely be a couple more years before he seriously challenges for a spot in the line-up, but the Rangers have been very happy with his progress to date, and anticipate him to be a bottom six forward, with perhaps middle six upside.
