The Franchise Leads the Way: Gilbert's Jersey Retirement

The New York Rangers retired Rod Gilbert's iconic number 7 jersey in a pre-game ceremony at Madison Square Garden, making him the very first player in franchise history to receive the ultimate honor. Two PTOs Added

OTG Transaction

Last week Chris Drury said he didn’t anticipate signing any Player Tryouts (PTOs) to bring players into camp, perhaps he meant just in terms of veterans – e.g. Jimmy Vesey last season. When the camp roster this week there were a handful of undrafted players who attended prosect camp that were invited, and over the last 24 hours, there’s been two more free agents added.

Defenseman Adam Clendening – who played for New York back in the 2016-17 season, and then joined Hartford for their run through the playoffs last year – was a late add to the blueline. The 30 year old last played in the NHL in 2018-19, and has 90 NHL games to his name over an 11 year career. If the Rangers do elect to extend an NHL contract, or for that matter an AHL contract, it does provide a degree of coverage on the right side, perhaps the slightly weaker of the two sides.

TRANSACTION: The Rangers have signed defenseman Adam Clendening to a PTO. The Niagara Falls, NY native split the 2022-23 season with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack and Rockford IceHogs, compiling 33 pts (4G-29A) in 68 games.

In perhaps a more surprising move, they also extended a PTO to goaltender Brad Arvanitis, 26 year old who has 9 ECHL games to his name over the past two seasons, and 20 games down in the SPHL. It would seem unlikely that Arvanitis will win a contract, but perhaps it’s with an eye to providing Cincinnati with some more options.

TRANSACTION: The Rangers have signed goaltender Brad Arvanitis to a PTO. The Holliston, MA, native spent the 2022-23 season in the ECHL with the Rapid City Rush, Tulsa Oilers and Wichita Thunder. He also played with the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey…
