Orginally signed as a potential player who could be left unprotected in the Seattle Kraken waiver draft, Jonny Brodzinski has played well enough to earn himself a two year extension.  The 28 year old has appeared in ten games with the Rangers, including five this year, registering a solitary goal which came last season.

At the AHL level though, Brodzinski has helped lead the Wolf Pack back to respectability, breaking Ryan Callahan‘s consecutive games with a goal streak, and leading the Rangers’ farm team in goals (18) and points (39).

Originally drafted in the fifth round – 148th overall – of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, the Minnesota native ultimately made his way to the Rangers in 2020 as a UFA, after a one year stint with  the Sharks.  Overall he has appeared in 54 NHL games over 6 seasons, setting career highs of 35 games played, 4 goals and 6 points as a 24 year old for the Kings.

While Brodzinski is unlikely to play a large role with the Rangers in the near future, his utility and low cost make him a reasonable depth player who can fill in when injuries hit.
