The Rangers host the New Jersey Devils tonight (7:00pm – MSG) in their third game in four nights (they still have another three in the next five before they get four days off). Needless to say the Devils are keen to renew the rivalry after the Rangers went 11-1-1 and not losing a single game in regulation.
According to Steve Zipay and Sam Weinman, Dan Fritsche will make his Rangers debut tonight, with Patrick Rissmiller sitting due to an ankle injury.
Both teams are undefeated early in the season, with the Rangers 4-0 for the first time since 1983, and the Devils having won their first two games.
There was no time off for the team, after an up and down performance Saturday against the Flyers that saw a 4-0 almost crumble.
Talk of a Brendan Shanahan return has of course been put on ice with the Rangers record, along with 12 goals through the first four games.
The Wolf Pack rebounded yesterday with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, after they lost their season opener Saturday. Miika Wiikman backstopped the Pack to their first points of the year.
Unconfirmed reports from Russia say that Rangers prospect Alexei Cherepanov collapsed on the bench and later died in hospital today. More when details are confirmed.
