Following early signings, the Rangers have announced the addition of a third center in Jonny Brodzinski. Like Kevin Rooney and Colin Blackwell, Brodzinski is another 27 year old who has not yet established himself as an NHL regular.
Over four season, the Minnesota native has tallied 6 goals and 6 assists in 57 appearances. The bulk of his career came with the team that selected him, while last year he saw action in three games wiht the San Jose Sharks.
A solid scorer at the AHL level, he hasn’t been able to convert that success to the NHL, and would likely be someone again in the vein of Greg McKegg and Phillip Di Giuseppe, a depth forward who can fill a role for a limited number of games.
For the Rangers, it would seem unlikely he’ll get much traction in camp, with the Rangers probably looking more to a defensive specialist like Kevin Rooney or even Colin Blackwell ahead of Brodzinski for that final 4th line spot.
