Carl Hagelin has a chance to represent Sweden in the upcoming Olympics in Sochi this February after being invited to the team’s orientation camp. Hagelin is one of 35 players invited to attend camp August 12-14 in Stockholm.
Another moderately surprising invite was Ranger prospect Oscar Lindberg, who did earn the Stefan Liv Memorial Trophy for MVP of the SEL playoffs last year, will be competing for a spot with the Rangers this coming Fall. Lindberg was acquired from the Phoenix Coyotes two seasons ago, in a trade for Ethan Werek.
They’ll be joined by goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, who’ll be looking at his third Olympic appearance, and a chance to add a second medal to his 2006 Gold Medal in Turin during his rookie NHL season.
The announcement brings the Rangers total invitees to eight, with Canada and USA inviting two and three Blueshirts respectively.
