Restricted Free Agent Mats Zuccarello has agreed to a one year contract worth $1.15M, just one day ahead of his scheduled arbitration hearing. The 25 year old Norwegian born winger has played 67 regular season games for the Rangers over the past three seasons, and a further 13 in the playoffs, but still is yet to cement a spot in the side.
With two of the Rangers top four wingers in Carl Hagelin and Ryan Callahan likely sidelined to start the season, Zuccarello will be looked to replace some of the missing offense, along with free agent signing Benoit Pouliot.
Zucarello began last season in the KHL after failing to come to terms with the Rangers. He ultimately signed on with New York following the end of his commitment in Russia, and finished with 3 goals and 5 assists in the final 15 contests, while playing mostly on the third line.
He added another 1 goal and 6 assists in 12 playoff games, to finish second amongst the Rangers, trailing only Derrick Brassard.
