Off day for the Rangers, with their next game not until Friday, when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets in Ohio. One player who will be unlikely to make the trip is Patrick Rissmiller who cleared waivers just minutes ago. The Rangers are now free to assign the UFA forward to Hartford if they so desire.
Rissmiller was waived yesterday, clearing approximately $900,000 in additional cap space for the organization, and leaves the team with just two spare forwards and an open spot if they need to bring up a defenseman.
This means Lauri Korpikoski has done enough to stay on the roster for the moment, though as the only forward who can be sent down without clearing waivers, his spot will likely remain tenuous for some time.
One player who appears to have cemented a spot for sure this season is Colton Orr, who worked hard in the off season to become more than just a fighter.
Rangers 2008 sixth round draft pick, Mitch Gaulton is likely out for the entire season due to elbow surgery, but on top of that he now has a cold. No matter, Gaulton will have plenty of time to recoup.
